Why the Costs? - Securing a Child’s Future
It’s understandable to question why financial considerations are involved when one’s desire is simply to provide a loving home to a child in need.
You’ll see from our Types of Adoption Comparison Table that adoption costs can be very modest, when working with your home State’s foster care system.
When a birth mother chooses to place through a private agency there are fees that are covered by the adoptive parents. These may include agency fees, legal fees, birth mother expenses and other associated costs. While paying for the opportunity to provide a loving home to a child may seem counterintuitive, it is important to understand the purpose behind these fees.
Supporting the Adoption Process:
Adoption agencies and professionals play a vital role in facilitating the adoption process, including matching adoptive parents with birth parents, providing counseling and support services, conducting home studies, navigating legal requirements, and ensuring the welfare of the child throughout the process. Adoption fees help cover the costs associated with these services and support the infrastructure necessary to ensure a safe and ethical adoption experience for all parties involved.
Investment in the Child's Future
While adoption fees may initially seem burdensome, viewing them as an investment in the child’s future is helpful. By ensuring that the adoption process is conducted with integrity and professionalism, adoption fees contribute to the well-being and stability of the child as they transition into their adoptive family. Additionally, the financial commitment required of adoptive parents reflects their dedication and readiness to provide a loving and supportive environment for the child. Preparation is not a new idea for us
Preparation Support
We know that “if ye are prepared, ye shall not fear” (D&C 38:30). This principle applies to all aspects of life, including adoption.
Our faith teaches us to trust in the Lord’s provision, always remembering that the blessings of adoption far outweigh temporary financial and temporal sacrifices.
Families can take comfort in knowing that their faithful personal attention to stewardship and responsible financial management they’ve been practicing throughout their journey will also guide them in making wise decisions throughout the adoption process.
Through prayer, careful planning, and seeking guidance from knowledgeable, LDS-friendly adoption professionals, families can navigate the financial aspects of adoption with faith and confidence.
Community Support
Remembering that we are part of a loving, service-minded community is important. We are not alone in our adoption journey. There are resources, support networks, and assistance programs to help alleviate many of the aspects associated with adoption. Local wards and stakes may even provide financial assistance, fundraising opportunities, and other support to families pursuing adoption.
The Eternal Family Foundation was specially established to ease the cost of Adoption for LDS Families, and Hearts Connect can put you in touch with fellow Saints who are also exploring adoption, in the process of adopting, actively adopting, or ready to raise their eternal family.
