Building Your Support System

One of the first steps you should take when considering placing your child for adoption is build your support team. You should be able to talk to the baby’s father and your family about the pregnancy. Share your thoughts and feelings with them and learn if they are willing to support you. Feeling supported by those closest to you is invaluable during this time.

Additionally, it is essential to have a network of understanding friends outside your immediate family. Having someone to discuss what you’re learning and to share your questions with can provide much-needed emotional support.

If you find that you cannot rely on the baby’s father, family, or friends for support, it is crucial to seek out others who respect your decision. Surrounding yourself with a strong support system can help you navigate this challenging time with greater confidence and peace.

Here are some additional support options to consider:

Licensed Adoption Counselors

Engage with licensed counselors who specialize in adoption. These professionals, available through reputable adoption agencies such as Heart to Heart Adoptions, can help you process your emotions and guide you through the decision-making process. They provide clarity and reassurance, ensuring you have a safe, non-judgmental environment to ask questions and express your feelings. Heart to Heart Adoptions has a full-time licensed counselor on staff, as well as several adoption professionals who will work closely with you to explore your reasons for considering adoption and discuss alternative options. They are committed to helping you make the right choice for you, whether or not that choice ends up being adoption.

LDS Family Services

Although LDS Family Services no longer provides adoption services, they still offer valuable support and guidance. They can help you make the best decision for you and your child by providing spiritual and emotional support in line with LDS teachings.

Church Leaders

Seek counsel from your church leaders. They can provide spiritual guidance and support, helping you feel the peace and direction you need. While they may not be professional counselors, their insights and blessings can offer significant comfort and clarity during this time.

Through Hearts’ Connect, you can connect with other birth mothers and access resources that share their stories and experiences with adoption. This can provide you with valuable insights and the reassurance that you are not alone in this journey.
